Serving up success one entrepreneur at a time. Food Enterprise and Economic Development Kitchens, better known as FEED Kitchens, celebrated its five-year anniversary with an open house at its Sherman Street location on Madison’s north side.

The Northside Planning Council of Madison, a local non-profit, opened the space in Nov. 2013 and it includes five commercial kitchens filled with commercial-grade equipment valued at $500,000. However, it hasn’t been a recipe for success all along. When the incubator first launched, Chris Brockel, FEED operations coordinator, said there were a number of issues – mainly getting people in to use the space.

“Once you get them in here, you have a sense of what it is they might need, but until you get them in here and meet with them you have to figure out the needs of these people – what do they know, what do they not know,” said Brockel. “Do they need to know learning more about the kitchen or running a business.”
